Pulling out like terms :

 3.1      Pull out     x+y 

After pulling out, we are left with :
      (x+y) • ( 1  *  (x-5) - 3  *  (x+y) ))

Pulling out like terms :

   -2x - 3y - 5  =   -1 • (2x + 3y + 5) 

Final result :
