Pulling out like terms :

 3.1     Pull out like factors :

   -4p² + 70p + 600  =   -2 • (2p² - 35p - 300) 

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

 3.2     Factoring  2p² - 35p - 300 

The first term is,  2p²  its coefficient is  2 .
The middle term is,  -35p  its coefficient is  -35 .
The last term, "the constant", is  -300 

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   2 • -300 = -600 

Step-2 : Find two factors of  -600  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   -35 .

For tidiness, printing of 18 lines which failed to find two such factors, was suppressed

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!
Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored

Final result :

  -2 • (2p2 - 35p - 300)
