 3.1     Pull out like factors :

   48x² + 190x + 144  =   2 • (24x² + 95x + 72) 

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

 3.2     Factoring  24x² + 95x + 72 

The first term is,  24x²  its coefficient is  24 .
The middle term is,  +95x  its coefficient is  95 .
The last term, "the constant", is  +72 

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   24 • 72 = 1728 

Step-2 : Find two factors of  1728  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   95 .

For tidiness, printing of 50 lines which failed to find two such factors, was suppressed

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!
Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored
